Vintage Ski Sweater Pillows

In my last couple posts I told you about our  continuing winter weather , my love of vintage ski sweaters,  and my dreams of a vintage Sun Valley experience.  So... now you will understand why I flipped over this fun, framed print when I saw it at our local big-box store, Fred Meyer.  It was actually one of several vintage -look travel posters that advertised skiing destinations.

I simply had to have it.

Luckily, they were on sale ( buy one , get one half-off) so I only paid $22.50 each for the two I purchased.

I just love them!  I bought the miniature wooden skis on sale at JoAnn a couple of years ago.  I think they have a general "winter" look as opposed to just Christmas and they went perfect with my new pictures.

Of course you know,  this small purchase turned in to so much more.  You know how it is...
You buy one thing.  Then you get inspired.  Then that leads to a couple more things.  Pretty soon you have redecorated the whole room.  That doesn't happen to you?

Here is small sample of the thought process...

"Winter has just started here. I've put Christmas away and the house seems so sad.  But it seems silly to put out spring stuff now when there will be snow for a while.. I need something "wintery" for the next few months."
" Gee those prints are so cute! I especially love the Sun Valley one!"
"I can't wait to put these up on the wall!"
" Oh! Wouldn't those cute, little skis look great with these?"
" Yes...a vintage ski lodge theme is perfect!"
" I can't spend a lot of money ,though."
" How about pillows made from vintage ski sweaters ?"
"Ooooh...and a sign that says "Ski Lodge" or something like that?"

So, I used what I already had and combined it with some pillows I made form vintage ski sweaters bought at the thrift store, and a fun "vintage-look" Ski Lodge sign I made from scraps I had lying around.   All  total, my vintage ski lodge makeover cost less than $70.  The pictures were $45 alone. So I spent less than $25 on all the rest.

Take off your mittens & skates, grab some hot cocoa and come on in !

There's a sign in the entryway to let you know you're in the right place....

The vintage cuckoo clock and antlers (faux, of course) are also a staple of lodge decor...

My Dad brought this clock back from Germany in the late 50's...

You can leave you skates & mittens at the door...although you'd better not leave your bucket of snowballs inside for too long!
( You might recognize both pairs of mittens...they are made from the sleeves of the sweaters.)

Go ahead and have a seat. You can cuddle up with a warm blanket and one of our vintage ski sweater pillows...

I would have liked to have some vintage wooden skis (real ones) and a faux fur throw or two...but that was over my budget for this year.  The fun part is looking for bargains on them throughout the year and then saving them for next year.  This is a winter decor look I plan to keep for a while.

Thanks for stopping by...

  2. Stacy,

I am so glad to know that I'm not the only one who has that kind of conversation with themselves. My favorite shared thought/line is "I can't spend a lot of money, though." Once that crosses your mind you're in too deep.....so decorate on.

  3. Hi Stacy, love those recycled jumpers - gloves are genius! And lucky you to have a vintage cuckoo clock. Reminds me of a trip to Triberg in Germany - cuckoo clock heaven! Wish I'd brought one home with me. We also went to nearby Schönberg to see what is reputedly the world's biggest cuckoo clock. Timed our visit for maximum cuckoo-ness - midday. Waited impatiently for 15 minutes, then on the stroke of 12 - nothing! They had turned it off!! Will just have to go back another time...
